Scuba diving equipment

Before scuba divers enter the deep, they learn to use scuba diving equipment in a pool. This provides them with a safe controlled environment where they can learn how to use everything. It also helps divers who are afraid of the ocean acclimate to the underwater environment.

A famous scene with scuba diving equipment and a pool takes place in The Graduate. Dustin Hoffman's character, Benjamin, receives scuba diving equipment for a birthday present and is forced to use it in front of his friends and family. His submerged state famously symbolizes his detachment from the world.

Of course, divers use scuba diving equipment as a means to gain adventure, not separate themselves from it. Once a diver becomes familiar with equipment like a respirator and an air tank, he is ready for underwater sightseeing. Divers can then go anywhere to see all kinds of underwater flora and fauna.
